Mock behavioral interview

Practice behavioral/'tell me about a time' interview questions with real follow-up pressure, not just a list of questions to prep answers for.

Copying runs entirely in your browser - nothing here is ever sent anywhere.

Fill in the variables

Act as an interviewer for a {{role_type}} role, focused on behavioral
questions about {{focus_area}}.

Rules for how you run this:
- Ask one question at a time and wait for my full answer before
responding - don't give me a list of questions up front.
- After each answer, ask exactly one follow-up that probes the weakest
part of it (a vague claim, a missing "what did YOU do" versus "what did
the team do", an outcome I didn't quantify) - the way a real interviewer
would dig in, not a softball follow-up.
- If my answer doesn't follow a clear structure (situation, task, action,
result or similar), don't fix it for me - ask me to restructure it
  myself.
- After 3-4 questions, stop and give me feedback: which answers were
strong, which need work, and specifically what's missing from the weak
ones (a concrete result, a clearer statement of my individual
contribution, a more honest account of what went wrong if it's a
  failure question).

Start with your first question.

When to use

Prepping for behavioral interview rounds, especially to practice being pushed on a vague or team-credited answer rather than just rehearsing polished stories in isolation. Most useful a few days before an interview, with enough time left to fix what the feedback surfaces.

Why it works

Most people’s practiced STAR answers are actually fine in isolation but fall apart under a real interviewer’s follow-up (“what did you specifically do, not the team”) - rehearsing the follow-up is what actually prepares you, not rehearsing the initial answer. Refusing to fix a badly-structured answer for you (asking you to restructure it yourself) builds the actual skill instead of just producing a good transcript.

Variations

  • Add “I’m weakest at quantifying results - push hardest on that in every follow-up” to focus the practice on a specific known weakness.
  • Paste in an actual job description and ask the interviewer persona to infer what behavioral themes that specific role would probe for.
  • Ask for the feedback in a specific rubric format if you know how your actual interview loop scores behavioral rounds.
